Screen with lily pond design

Duncan Grant for the Omega Workshops Ltd

1913-1914

Oil paint on wood

181.3 x 60.8 cm

Duncan Grant based this design on a goldfish pond at Roger Fry’s house in Surrey. The fluid forms create an abstract pattern that is loosely organic, with unexpected pops of bright colour. The effect seems to recall camouflage patterns designed by artists during the First World War.
