This superbly carved work belongs to a group of ivories illustrating the Passion (Death and Resurrection) of Christ. The narrative begins at the bottom with the Annunciation, Nativity and Adoration of the Magi (wise men or kings). The Arrest, Death of Judas, Crucifixion and Resurrection (middle tier) are followed by the Ascension and the Descent of the Holy Spirit (represented by the dove) at the top.
